2024 Project Recap

Wow, did I actually make all of this in 2024? Looking back, it feels like a whirlwind of yarn, creativity, and experimentation. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit all the projects that came off my hooks (and needles) this year.

What I Made in 2024

Here are some of the projects—there’s no particular order here because honestly, I can’t remember when I made what! You can check out all the projects in my latest vlog.

Phew, that’s a lot of stitches! Some of these were experiments, or custom orders, and a few were purely for me. But every single one brought its own unique joy to the creative process.

Shifting My Creative Mindset

One thing I learned this year? It’s okay to not have a detailed plan for your projects. In fact, not having a plan will allow me to embrace spontaneity and explore new designs without any pressure.

In 2025, I’m adopting the mantra: “Make what I want, when I want.” But I do have a few things I’d like to try and grow with—because as fun as free-form creativity is, learning something new is always exciting.

What I Want to Learn and Explore in 2025

Here’s what I’m dreaming about for the year ahead:

1️⃣ Tunisian Crochet
I’ve always wanted to try Tunisian crochet, but it’s intimidated me for years. I even bought a Tunisian crochet hook decades ago, used it once, and then promptly forgot about it. But after receiving a recent email from Toni at TLYC, full of colorful mini-skein Tunisian projects, I felt inspired to give it another try.

2️⃣ Mosaic Crochet
Another technique I’ve admired from afar is mosaic crochet. There’s something mesmerizing about the intricate, colorful designs. Earlier in 2024, I picked up Dark and Dramatic Mosaic Crochet by Alexis Sixel. Her gothic-inspired patterns are like works of art—each one feels like walking through an art gallery.

I’ve only completed the practice tutorial in the book (why did I stop?!), but in 2025, I’m determined to pick two or three projects and tackle them head-on.

3️⃣ Sewing (and Upcycling)
While not crochet, sewing has always been a passion of mine. Back in my teens, I used to upcycle thrifted clothes to create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces (mostly because I couldn’t afford new clothes). Somewhere along the way, I became an adult with an income,  life got busy, and I stopped sewing altogether.

In 2025, I want to bring sewing back into my life, learn how to properly use my sewing machine, and refresh my wardrobe with upcycled, sustainable pieces. Things like learning to sew darts, adding zippers, and making straight stitches are at the top of my list.

I also want to combine sewing with crochet—imagine adding crochet trims to thrifted tops or refreshing old dresses with handmade embellishments. If you’re into sewing and crochet hybrids, stay tuned for more projects to come!

Mindful Crafting in 2025

Another thing I’m focusing on is sustainability. Climate change is real, and fast fashion has such a devastating impact on the environment. In 2025, I’m committing to:

  • Mending clothes instead of throwing them out

  • Thrifting second-hand whenever possible

  • Using scrap and leftover yarn for my projects

  • Avoiding purchases from fast fashion brands

It’s a small step, but every little bit helps.

What’s Next?

As I close the chapter on 2024, I feel so grateful for all the creativity this year brought. I’m excited to keep experimenting, learning, and sharing my crafting adventures with you in 2025.

Here’s to another year of yarn, creativity, and mindful making. 🎉
