Zebra Chic Striped Crochet Poncho Pattern

It’s hard to believe how one simple accessory can enhance a look, right? That’s exactly what happened when I saw a photo of the effortlessly chic poncho worn by Alexandra Daddario. It was that perfect blend of sophistication and casual style, and I knew I had to recreate it with my own crochet twist!

Today, I’m excited to introduce the Zebra Chic Crochet Poncho, inspired by that very look. This crochet poncho pairs effortlessly with jeans and heels or a casual tank and boots – it's versatile, comfy, and, of course, stylish.

About the Design

The Zebra Chic Poncho is all about clean lines and simple elegance. With its off-white base and striking black stripes, it creates a timeless contrast that works for almost any occasion. A small collar around the neck and a couple of decorative buttons at the front add just the right amount of detail without taking away from its minimalist feel.

While the original poncho may have been knitted, I designed this version with a double crochet V-stitch to create a textured look that’s both cozy and easy to work up. The V-stitch adds dimension and airiness, making it perfect for layering without being too bulky.

Yarn + Hook

For this project, I used an off-white worsted weight yarn as the base color, with a contrasting black yarn for the stripes. Feel free to get creative with your color choices—this poncho would look great in earthy tones for a fall vibe or with a pop of bright color for something a little bolder!

To make this poncho, you’ll need a 6.00mm and a 5.0 mm crochet hook, and optional buttons to sew to the front.

Pattern Inspiration

This design was inspired by the polished look Alexandra Daddario effortlessly put together. It had a sense of timeless style, blending casual comfort with an upscale edge. The classic color combination made it perfect for everyday wear or even a night out.

While working on this poncho, I kept thinking about how easy it is to throw on and go. Whether you’re running errands, grabbing brunch, or heading out for an evening stroll, the Zebra Chic Poncho has you covered—literally!

How to Style It

Pair it with skinny jeans and heels for a simple chic look, or go for leggings and boots when you want something more relaxed. And don’t forget a cozy hat for those colder days! The versatility of this poncho makes it a wardrobe must-have for those transitional months when layering is key.

  • Rows 2-3: Work to end at neck, cut yarn, and weave in ends.

  • Adjust chain for fit if needed.

  • Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Tip: Keep your tension relaxed so the chain length matches the opposite side of the neckline.

Tip: Leave the stitch markers in place to identify the front and back later.

There will be 8 White rows in the front/back neckline area.

Second Half

  • Continue V-stitch pattern to match the first half (35 rows). Do not cut yarn.

Edging

Rotate work so row edges are facing.

Ch 3 (counts as a dc), Work 2 dc in each row edge and 5 dc in corner spaces. At the foundation row, work 2 dc in the upside down V stitches. Sl st to first st. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Collar

  • Use 5.00mm hook and White yarn.

  • Row 1: Ch 3, work 2 dc in each upside-down V-stitch, row edge, and V stitches, leave the front neck row edges unworked.

  • Rows 2-3: Ch 3, dc in each st, at the end of Row 3 do not turn.

  • Rotate work and evenly sc along the dc row edges for a neat finish, sl st to first st.

  • Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

To give the poncho a finishing touch, I sewed on two black decorative buttons to the front and with that the poncho is done and ready to wear!
