Easy Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

I don't remember when I first started using crochet dishcloths but they have been a life saver and I absolutely love using crochet dishcloths.

Aside from being eco-friendly and reusable, they work up such a great, soapy lather and are perfect for surfaces that require gentler cleaning.

Of course, they do not last forever and eventually become tattered and torn. A few days ago I was searching for a clean dishcloth and realized I was down to my last two "good" dishcloths (the others were either on their way out or had already gone to a better place).

Good thing I had a handy dishcloth crochet pattern because it was time to make more! These dishcloths are easy to crochet and work up quickly so they’re great to make as gifts or for markets.

Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

I'm using my go-to dishcloth pattern to make these durable and functional dishcloths. The pattern uses a variation of the granite or moss stitch and is very easy to crochet making it perfect for beginners.

Materials

  • 1 x 42.5-gram skein of worsted weight (4) cotton yarn such as Bernat Handicrafter cotton

  • Size 4.00mm crochet hook

  • Scissors

  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations (US Terminology)

st(s) - stitch(es)

ch - chain

sc - single crochet

sk - skip

tch - turning chain

Pattern Notes

  • You can make the cloth bigger or smaller by adding more foundation chains.

  • You can also adjust the size and texture by using a smaller (or larger) hook.

  • The pattern is worked in rows using multiples of 2 plus 3.

Dishcloth Pattern

Row 1: ch 27, sc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 sc) *sk 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch, repeat from * to last 2 ch, sk 1 ch, sc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in first st *sk 1 sc, 2 sc in next st, repeat from * to last 2 sts, sk 1 sc, sc in top of tch, turn.

Repeat Row 2 until the dishcloth measures approx. 5.5" or you reach your desired size.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Cloths can be machine-washed and dried. Whenever my dishcloths start to smell I soak them in vinegar before washing and drying (usually the drying gets rid of any musty smells).

After many months of use, this is what the dishcloths will start to look like and that'll be your cue to make more!
