Crochet Bear Mug Sleeve

We've been cooped up at home for a couple of weeks, self-isolating and doing our part in preventing the spread of COVID-19. I know this is challenging for many of us, being at home all day. I'm fortunate that my day job allows me to work from home and occupy my time during the day, but in the space where I would normally commute and go out to do life things, I've found myself with precious extra time. This is the extra time I need to spend on my website and on designing new patterns. This is the extra time I need to have the head space to think and daydream and come up with ideas for Pops de Milk. This is the extra time that allows me to connect with the online crochet community and collaborate with makers to bring you a Bear Mug Cozy Crochet Pattern.

The inspiration for this newest design is thanks to a Pops de Milk follower who reached out asking for an easy to follow pattern suited for beginners. They really loved the Bear Mason Jar Cozy I made a while back but really wanted something for a mug with a handle. So here it is!

My hope is that this cute little bear brings a little joy to your day!

Pattern Notes:

This pattern is worked flat in rows. You can adjust the size of the cosy by making more or less starting chains. The finished length of the cosy is 9.5” and stretches to 10.5” when wrapped around a mug. The final row yarn tail  makes the loop for the button closure. Alternately you can use ribbon or elastic to sew on for the button loop.

Pattern:

Row 1: ch 42, turn and sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across, (41 sts)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sc in each st across

Row 3: Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 2.5"/6.5cm or there are 11-12 rows

Last row: Do not ch, sl st in next 28 sts, in next st (sc, 3 dc, sc), sl st in next 6 sts, in next st (sc, 3 dc, sc), sl st in remaining sts.

Fasten off leaving a tail long enough for button loop, about 6". Use the yarn needle to stitch the yarn tail into the first row.

Use embroidery thread and needle to embroider a nose and smile onto a small circle of felt. Sew this onto the cosy.

Secure safety eyes.
