Crochet Plant Hanger Pattern

I will be the first to admit that I kill plants. I love plants but aside from occasionally dusting the monstera leaves, I don't touch them. That job is left to Jason, the one with the green thumbs. Jason likes to propagate, purchase, and rescue plants so you can imagine how precious plant real estate is around here. The need for more plant space inspired me to create an easy crochet plant hanger pattern.

This crochet plant hanger works up very quickly and you can use different colors to give it a unique style.

  • 5.00mm/H-8 crochet hook

  • Yarn needle to weave ends

  • Metal or plastic ring

Abbreviations (US terms)

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

inc - increase (2 sts in same st)

BLO - work in back loop only

sk - skip

work even - complete round/row without inc/dec

space(s) - sp(s)

Notes

Starting chain does not count as a stitch - make the first stitch in the same space as the starting chain. Do not turn at the end of each round. Slip stitch to the first stitch or specified space at the end of each round.

I've used cotton and acrylic yarn to make this plant hanger and both work well. Note that cotton has a bit less stretch than acrylic so keep this mind when choosing your yarn.

The number of chains on the straps can be changed depending on how far you want the plant hanger to drop. In this pattern the straps are each 54 chains and the drop is approx. 19". I made a shorter version made up of 50 chains that has a drop length of approx. 14.5"
