Elf Mason Jar Cozy

crochet elf pattern

A reader recently asked how she could alter the Santa mason jar cozy to cover the whole jar. I advised her to simply add more rounds but I was really curious about how that would actually turn out. I decided the best way to test this would be to make another cozy, this time a crochet Christmas elf mason jar cozy. Because it's Christmas I chose to make an elf to help Santa out with presents. I hope you like my Christmas Elf Mason Jar Cozy Crochet Pattern!I did a search for Christmas elves to get an idea of colors and design and of course the mischievous elf on the shelf popped up everywhere. So on top of a helper elf I have a naughty elf mason jar cozy that fits the smaller mason jars.

Christmas Elf Mason Jar Cozy Crochet Pattern

Materials

  • worsted weight yarn in elf colors (green, red, white)

  • size 4.00mm crochet hook

  • mason jar

  • optional: scrap piece of felt or buttons or other embellishments you want to add

Abbreviations (US terms)
sc - single crochet
inc - increase (2sts in same st)
BLO - back loop only
dc - double crochet
sk - skip
sl st - slip stitch

Notes: Pattern is worked in continuous rounds, do not join or turn at the end of each round. Use stitch markers to keep track of beginning/end of each round. Depending on your tension you may need to adjust the size by increasing or decreasing stitches in order to fit the cozy on the jar. The larger helper elf fits a 500ml mason jar and the smaller elf on the shelf fits a 240ml jar.

Helper Elf (large cozy)
Starting with green yarn
Round 1: start 6sc in magic ring
Round 2: inc in each st (12sts)

Round 4: complete the following [inc, sc in next 2 sts] x 6 (24sts)
Round 5: complete the following [inc, sc in next 3 sts] x 6 (30sts)
Round 6: complete the following [inc, sc in next 4 sts] x 6 (36sts)

Rounds 20-28: sc in each st around (36 sts)
Switch to white
Round 29: *sk 1 st, 7dc in next st, sk 1 st, sc *repeat around, join with sl st and fasten off.
Use a scrap piece of felt to make the belt buckle. My belt buckle turned out super tiny because I had a very small piece of felt (really I just didn't want to "break" a brand new sheet just for a tiny square).

Elf on the Shelf (small cozy)
Starting with red yarn
Complete rounds 1-5 of Helper Elf pattern
Round 6: working in BLO sc in each st around (30 sts)
Rounds 7-19: sc in each st around (30 sts)
Switch to white
Repeat round 29 of Helper Elf
