Remembrance Day Poppy Crochet Pattern
November is here, and with American Thanksgiving around the corner and the holiday season approaching, stores are eager to dive right into Christmas displays. It seems like the festive spirit kicks in earlier every year, and many of us get swept up in the joy and bustle of the season as soon as Halloween ends. But before we get completely wrapped up in holiday cheer, there’s something else that deserves our attention and respect.
As I walk through stores filled with tinsel and holiday lights, I’ve noticed far fewer displays of Remembrance Day poppies. Grade school history introduced me to In Flanders Fields and the significance of the red poppy as a symbol of blood shed and sacrifices made. Yet, each year, I see fewer poppies pinned to coats and jackets—a gentle tradition quietly fading. That’s why I wanted to create and share a crochet pattern for a poppy, allowing us to honor and remember those who fought in past wars in our own special way. Whether you wear it yourself or share it with others, this poppy stands as a reminder that some things, like remembrance, should never be forgotten.
