Fall Coffee Cozy Pattern

This weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving and this year we're hosting a potluck dinner for our close friends. As I type this post I think about our massive turkey, thawing in the fridge (it's been in there since Wednesday) and how I can't wait to share good food with good people. I also think about how I've been able to keep this blog going, thanks to you, my lovely readers. Maple Leaf Coffee Cup Cozy Crochet Pattern

This pattern is great for beginners who are ready for a more challenging project. The cup sleeve is quite easy to make (it's basically the same pattern I made for Coffee Day) and the leaf pattern was adapted from a maple leaf found on The Painted Hinge *Update: the original leaf pattern is no longer available but there is another adaptation here. The pattern was very easy to follow and Michelle shows step by step instructions on how to make the leaf points. I loved the design of the leaf but I knew it would be too large for the coffee sleeve so I made some modifications. Use any colour combination you like. I went with a rich and vibrant contrast and I love how the orange looks against the dark purple. And yes, in case you're wondering, it's the same yarn I used for the September socks!

Materials

-medium worsted weight yarn (4) such as, Red Heart Super Saver in Dark Orchid

-super fine weight yarn (1) such as, Loops & Threads Woolike in Pumpkin Spice

-size 3.75mm (F) and 3.00mm hooks

-stitch markers

-tapestry needle

Stitches (US Terms)

ch - chain

sl st - slip stitch

sc - single crochet

inc - increase (2 sts in same st)

Sleeve - Use 3.75mm hook and medium yarn. Work in the round and slip stitch at the end of the round but do not turn. Starting ch does not count as st. Remember to move marker up as you go along.

Round 1: ch 34, sl st to join and make a circle

Round 2: ch 1, sc in each ch around (34 sts)

Place a stitch marker in the last stitch, fold in half and place another stitch marker on the opposite side so that there are 16 stitches between the markers.

Round 3: work even

Round 4: ch 1, *sc to marker, inc in stitch with marker *repeat

Round 5-6: work even

Round 7: ch 1, *sc to marker, inc in stitch with marker *repeat

Round 8-9: work even

Round 10: ch 1, *sc to marker, inc in stitch with marker *repeat

Rounds 11-12: work even

Round 13: sl st around and fasten off

For the leaf, follow the pattern linked above but use the smaller hook and super fine yarn and substitute the stitches as follows:

Instead of dc, use hdc

Instead of hdc, use sc

Instead of trc, use dc

Lastly, for the stem I made a chain of 9 instead of 12 and left a long tail to sew onto the cup sleeve.
