Crochet Heart Pattern

Valentine's Day is creeping around the corner, and while the idea of drowning in pink confetti might not be everyone’s thing, it’s always the right time to celebrate love in all its forms. Enter the "Have a Heart" Amigurumi Crochet Pattern: a versatile, squishy, and ridiculously cute heart pattern that’s perfect for anyone needing a little handmade charm.

But hey, this isn’t just a Valentine’s Day deal. Make these hearts in a rainbow of colors for Pride month, sprinkle them around your home as cozy decor, or give them to friends, family, or yourself—because self-love deserves a handmade plushie too.

This pattern is beginner-friendly, quick to work up, and endlessly customizable. Add a face, embroider a message, or just let it shine as is. Ready to get started? Let’s dive in!

Crochet Tips:

  • Stitch Tension: Keep your tension even throughout to avoid lumpy or misshapen hearts.

  • Stuffing: Add stuffing gradually as you work. Overstuffing can cause the stitches to stretch too much, while under-stuffing might make the heart look flat.

  • Customization: Experiment with yarn colors and hook sizes to create hearts of different sizes and textures. A smaller hook will make a tighter, firmer heart, while a larger hook creates a softer, fluffier one.

Heart Project Ideas:

  • Make a set of tiny hearts in rainbow colors for a garland or table decor.

  • Attach a keychain loop to turn your heart into a bag charm or keyring.

  • Stitch hearts onto hats, scarves, or sweaters for a fun embellishment.

  • Fill them with lavender or dried herbs for scented sachets.

Heart Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

This heart is worked in continuous rounds, so there’s no joining or turning. Grab your stitch marker to keep track of your rounds, and let’s crochet some love!

Materials

  • Yarn: Worsted weight (4) yarn in any color you love. For classic vibes, I used Bernat Super Value in True Red.

  • Hook: 3.50mm crochet hook (or size needed to achieve tight stitches).

  • Stuffing: A bit of polyfill or your preferred filling material.

  • Extras: Yarn needle, stitch marker, scissors.

Abbreviations (US Terminology):

  • st(s): stitch(es)

  • sc: single crochet

  • inc: increase (2 single crochets in the same stitch)

  • dec: decrease (single crochet 2 together/sc2tog)

Pattern Instructions

First Half of the Heart:

make 5 sc in magic ring

Round 1: Make 5 sc in a magic ring, or ch 2 and make 5 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. (5 sts)

Round 2: sc in each st around. (5 sts)

Round 3: inc in each st around. (10 sts)

Round 4: sc in each st around. (10 sts)

Round 5: [sc in next st, inc in next] repeat 5 times. (15 sts)

Round 6: sc in each st around. (15 sts)

Round 7: [sc in next 2 sts, inc in next] repeat 5 times. (20 sts)

Round 8: [sc in next 3 sts, inc in next] repeat 5 times. (25 sts)

Round 9: [sc in next 4 sts, inc in next] repeat 5 times. (30 sts)

Round 10: sc in each st around. (30 sts)

Round 11: Skip the first 15 sts, sc in the remaining 15 sts. (15 sts)
Tip: You’ve just created the first "bump" of the heart. The skipped stitches will form the second bump later. Make sure to use a stitch marker if needed to keep track of where to pick up stitches.

Round 11: Skip the first 15 sts, sc in the remaining 15 sts.

Round 12: [sc in next st, dec] repeat 5 times. (10 sts)

Round 13: sc in each st around. (10 sts)

Round 14: dec 5 times. (5 sts)

Fasten off and sew the opening shut. Begin to stuff the heart with polyfill or your chosen filling. Don’t overstuff—it should be firm but still able to keep its shape.

Second Half of the Heart:

  1. Pick up a stitch in the first unworked stitch from Round 11. Sc in each of the 15 unworked sts. (15 sts)
Tip: Make sure your stitches are tight and neat here to avoid gaps in the heart's center.

  2. Repeat Rounds 12–14. Fasten off and sew the opening shut.

If you notice a small gap in the center where the two bumps meet, use a bit of scrap yarn to sew it closed.

Pick up a stitch in the first unworked stitch from Round 11.

If there is a gap, use a bit of scrap yarn to sew it closed.

Finishing Touches:

And that’s it—you’ve got yourself a crochet heart! Leave it plain, embroider a name or message, or stitch on an adorable amigurumi face. These little hearts work up quickly, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself with a pile of them before you know it!
