Bookmark Crochet Pattern

Have you ever made a crochet bookmark? Read on to see how to make your own and never lose your place in a book!

With work, life, and some times nicer weather I've been finding it a little difficult to focus on crochet and the blog. My attention span drifts toward more demanding tasks and unfinished work assignments. Crochet is supposed to bring comfort and release from the everyday stress but I suppose that applies to crochet that you yourself are not designing and testing.

Design and pattern QA is not my favorite part about crochet - this is the part that is more like work rather than play. So I decided to take a little break by doing something I love but haven't made time for in ages - reading.

As I was reading I found myself drifting back to crochet, go figure. I was setting my book down but didn’t have a bookmark handy and that’s when inspiration struck.

So, what's a book-loving crocheter to do? Make a crochet bookmark of course!

Materials

  • To make the blue bookmark I used:

    • Fine weight (2) merino wool yarn

    • 3.25mm crochet hook

  • To make the pink bookmark I used:

    • Lightweight (3) cotton yarn

    • 3.25 mm crochet hook

Pattern Notes

The stitches in the square brackets are done in the same ch space. There are two versions of this pattern with the only difference being the single chains between each repetition eg. "sc in next 3 ch, ch 1, skip 2 ch, [dc 2, ch 3, dc 2] ch 1, etc." Try them both and see which one you like best.

Abbreviations (US Terminology)

ch - chain

st - stitch

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

Bookmark Pattern

Ch 34, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next ch, ch 1, skip 2 ch, *[dc 2, ch 3, dc 2], skip 2 ch, sc in next 3 ch, skip 2 ch* repeat and end with 2 sc. Ch 1, continue on the bottom of the foundation chain and repeat the pattern to the end, ch 1 and slip stitch to first sc.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

You can block your bookmark or simply press it between the pages of a very heavy book. You can see that the different types of yarn and pattern versions gave each bookmark a different look. Experiment and see what you come up with!
