Cutest Little Death Star
On May 4th I posted a pattern for a Death Star pillow and after a reader brought up an issue with the trench stitches, I decided to double check the pattern. I made a very VERY small version and discovered that this reader was right (thank you!!). I adjusted the pattern but then went back and tried the original pattern's instructions for the trench. The difference is that in version one, the trench is made up of slip stitches and in the second version (the one I posted) the stitches are single crochet in back loops only. For this little Death Star I went with the first version. Normally, once I test a pattern I unravel and reuse the yarn for something else but....the tiny Death Star looked so cute I decided to add details and finish it.

I was in the middle of stuffing the sphere when I got an incredibly random thought: Usually when you look at images of the Death Star you see the superlaser but...what about on the other side?
"Oh, don't mind me, I'm just a cute little Death Star, waiting to shoot my superlaser!"
And yes, the space station is blushing because that is what space stations do. Or maybe I was experimenting with blush on a crochet project. I found this great tutorial on Crafty is Cool for making face detail and one of the tips is how to use blush. What do you think? Little Death Star is so shy!
Cutest Little Death Star Crochet Pattern
Size: Approx. 9” circumference
Materials:
Size 3.00 and 3.50mm hook
Worsted weight (4) yarn such as Bernat Super Value in True Grey
Polyfil for stuffing
Yarn needle for sewing
Black and grey embroidery thread
Embroidery needle
4mm safety eyes*
Optional: pink blush powder
Notes: Unless otherwise stated, this pattern is worked in continuous rounds using stitch markers to locate the beginning/end of a round. Work in somewhat tight stitches.
The number next to each stitch is the number of single crochet stitches to make.
Example:
Round 4: 2sc, inc, 3sc, inc, 2sc, inc, 3sc,
inc, 2sc, inc (22 sts)
Translates to:
Round 4: sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, inc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, inc in next st (22 sts)
*Safety eyes pose a choking hazard to children under 3 years of age. If you are giving this to a child under 3, you can embroider the eyes instead of using safety eyes.

Using 3.50mm hook and True Grey yarn.
Round 1: make 5 sc in magic ring (5 sts)
Round 2: inc, inc, inc, inc, inc3 (11 sts)
Round 3: inc, 2, inc, 1, inc, 1, inc, 1, inc, 1 (16 sts)
Round 4: 1, inc, 2, inc, 2, inc, 1, inc, 2, inc, 2, inc (22 sts)
Round 5: 4, inc, 5, inc, 4, inc, 5, inc (26 sts)

Attach safety eyes and embroider smile. Begin to stuff with fiberfill.

Round 22: dec, 1, dec, 1, dec, 2, dec, 1, dec, 1 (11 sts)
Round 23: dec 4 times.
Fasten off and sew opening shut.
Superlaser
Using 3.00mm hook and Bernat – True Grey
Round 1: 12 dc in ring (12 sts)
Round 2: ch1, sc inc in each st (24 sts)
Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing.
With embroidery needle and grey embroidery thread, stitch vertical and horizontal lines around sphere and on superlaser – to help me with some of the line stitch placement I Googled photos of the Death Star and used them as guides. I left the face area free of lines but you can add them if you like. And of course you can also add a little blush to the cheeks for extra cuteness!
