Fox Mason Jar Cozy Crochet Pattern

I think it's official—I'm obsessed with making these crochet mason jar cozies. They're quick and fun to crochet, and I just can't get enough!

My latest attempt at transforming a furry woodland creature into an adorable yet functional home accessory led me to create this crochet fox mason jar cozy. From his sly gaze to his swishy tail, this orange creature has been an absolute delight!

Fox Mason Jar Cozy Crochet Pattern

This cozy pattern is for a 500ml mason jar but you can adjust the size by increasing the base circle stitches to make it larger or starting with fewer base circle stitches to make it smaller.

The pattern is worked in continuous rounds, do not join or turn at the end of the round.

Materials

  • Worsted weight (4) yarn, such as Bernat Super Value in Pumpkin, and scrap yarn in off-white for the tip of the tail

  • Size 4.00mm crochet hook

  • 7mm safety eyes (I purchased mine from 6060 on Etsy)

  • Scrap piece of felt in cream or white and a small piece of black

  • Thread and needle

  • Yarn needle

  • Stitch marker

  • Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms)

ch – chain

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

tr - triple crochet

Round 1: start 6 sc in magic ring.

Round 2: inc in each st (12 sts)

Round 3: [inc in next st, sc in next st] repeat 6 times (18 sts)

Round 4: [inc in next st, sc in next 2 sts] repeat 6 times (24 sts)

Round 5: [inc in next st, sc in next 3 sts] repeat 6 times (30 sts)

Round 6: [inc in next st, sc in next 4 sts] repeat 6 times (36 sts)

Round 7: sc in BLO Stitching in the back loop will create the edge/walls of the cozy

Rounds 8-22: working in both loops, sc in each st around

Final round: sc in next 13 sts, in next st (dc, 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr, dc, ch 2), skip next st, sl st in next 6 sts, in next st (dc, 2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr, dc, ch 2), skip next st, sl st in next st. Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Tail

Starting with orange yarn, ch 10, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 7 sts, switch to cream yarn and make 4 sc in the last ch, switch back to orange yarn and continue on the bottom of the foundation ch to end.

Cut the yarn and use the yarn needle to sew the tail onto the body.

Give your fox cozy some details!

Cut out two almond-shaped pieces of cream or off-white felt.

Mark where you want the eyes to be and then cut a tiny slit, big enough for the safety eye to fit. Attach the safety eyes and trim the excess stem if necessary (with this cozy, because there is a layer of felt in between, I didn't find it necessary to trim the excess safety eye stem as I have done with other cozies).

Cut out a small triangle of black felt for the nose and stitch it onto the body.

You'll notice there's a bit of a gap in the pointy ears, which you can stitch closed with a bit of yarn or thread if you like.

Voila! Another cute animal crochet cozy is done! Now you can enjoy your favorite drink with your new fox mason jar cozy!
