April Socks
I did it! I finished another pair of socks in one month!
It's funny, when I tell people that I've decided to make a pair of socks every month this year, hearing the words come out of my mouth, I think to myself, "Did I really sign up for that? What is wrong with me?!" But then I remember that crochet is all about finding challenges and enjoying that moment of pride and confidence you get from overcoming obstacles. Woo!
When I first started making these socks I didn't expect to veer from the pattern. I was fully prepared to colour inside the lines, as neatly as possible, but I quickly discovered I'd have to let loose and get messy. The pattern is from Yarnspirations (find the free PDF here) and is great for crocheters who are making their first pair of socks. The challenge I faced with these socks happened after about four rounds of just making single crochet stitches. After adding more stitches to compensate for the size, I struggled with the heel because the stitch count was off at this point and I just couldn't get the calculations right, so the first sock turned out a little wonky in the heel. I worried I would have issues with the second sock but it actually went by much faster and easier with very little wonkiness in the heel. I feel like I learned quite a bit about crochet sock structure and being able to adapt a pattern. April socks, done!
