This project is great for experienced crocheters and it will take you between six to ten hours to make.

Because it uses simple stitches, it's also great for beginners as well. Despite its simplicity, when I first embarked upon making my first Death Star crochet pillow, I hit a couple stumbling blocks and found a few useful tools that I explain in this post. So get your favorite crochet hook ready, let's make your next nerdy home accessory!

As with all my patterns, I have made this crochet Death Star pillow several times and so many of you have tried as well. But if you run into any problems in the pattern, email me at patricia@popsdemilk.com.

The first several attempts at making this crochet space station were frustrating because I couldn't get the right spherical shape. This is where the internet saved me from pulling out my hair, as usual.

I found this really awesome sphere pattern calculator that helped me create the ideal sphere. The difficult part was counting and making sure I had the right number of stitches per round because the formula isn't like your usual increase every x number of stitches by y number of times. So for this project I followed the calculated pattern and then made single crochet stitches to the back loops of the middle rounds to create the trench.

You can use the sphere pattern calculator to create a crochet Death Star pillow of any size. For this pattern, I made the sphere 96 stitches in circumference, which ended up being approximately 1 foot in diameter.

You can follow me in the youtube video as I stitch this frightening instrument of destruction together! The video highlights some of the key elements of this pattern, like getting started, keeping track of rounds, triple stitch increases, working in the back loop, and crocheting in the round. If you try this pattern, I strongly recommend using the video with the pattern.

With yarn needle and Soft Grey yarn stitch vertical and horizontal lines around sphere and on superlaser – to help me with some of the line stitch placement I Googled photos of the Death Star and used them as guides.

Once you've crocheted the Death Star, use a yarn needle and Soft Grey yarn to stitch vertical and horizontal lines around sphere and on superlaser – to help add the effect of trenches and buildings on the surface of the Death Star. I googled photos of the Death Star and used them as guides for the trenches. Enjoy your new crochet Death Star pillow!
